Northampton look set to continue their recruitment drive with a deal for Scunthorpe defender Charlie Goode, close to being completed according to reports.

The central defender spent time on loan at Sixfields last season and has been told he is free to leave Glanford Park by Iron boss, Paul Hurst according to reports in the Grimsby Telegraph.

The 23-year-old has not been part of the squad at the pre-season training camp in La Manga and, after an impressive loan spell with the Cobblers at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, it appears a move is close to completion.

Goode has been at the Iron since 2015 after being signed from non-league Hendon by, then, Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins.

He has not always been a regular at Glanford Park and after making some individual errors in the first half of last season, he dropped down the pecking order and went on loan to Northampton in January.

With the signing of Andy Butler, it is unlikely that Goode will find a place in the Scunthorpe squad for the new season. In fact, the Iron currently have six centre-backs on the books meaning that Goode and maybe one other could leave before the start of the new season.
