Morecambe are set to sign goalkeeper Trevor Carson on loan from Dundee United, according to reports.

The stopper was being targeted by Hartlepool boss Graeme Lee but it now appears the 33-year-old is set for a spell in League One with the Shrimps.

Carson joined the Terrors on a two-year deal following his departure from Motherwell but has only made three appearances during his time with the club.

Hartlepool were linked with the player, who was with Pools from 2015 to 2017 but, as per the Daily Record, it now looks as though a move to Morecambe to team up with Stephen Robinson is all but done.

Lee does have options already at the club with Ben Killip, Jonathan Mitchell and Patrick Boyes the current trio of goalkeepers at his disposal, so there is no immediate concern.

Morecambe will be looking to add competition for Kyle Letheren and Carson certainly fulfils that role. The Shrimps have added former Scunthorpe defender, Jacob Bedeau, to the squad already with the youngster joining on loan from Burnley earlier this week.

The Shrimps are in the midst of a relegation battle but picked up a superb comeback win in their last game to beat Doncaster 4-3. Robinson’s men had been 3-0 down at the break but stormed back to seal a huge three points for the League One battlers.
