League One play-off finalists Lincoln City are looking to land Portadown’s prolific young forward Lee Bonis, according to reports.
The Imps will have the chance to win promotion to the second-tier of English football when they face Blackpool at Wembley next week, but they may already be looking at strengthening regardless of which division they’ll be playing in.
Michael Appleton has a great reputation when it comes to recruitment and, according to Alan Nixon, Lincoln City are eying up 21-year-old striker Lee Bonis after the youngster impressed in the Northern Irish league during the last two seasons.
Bonis is quick and decent in the air and can score with both feet. He came to Portadown’s attention after netting 50 goals for Seagoe in 2018/19 and has followed that up with prolific campaigns in the last couple of years with The Ports.
He scored 15 times in 26 outings last season before COVID brought proceedings to a halt and this year, at a higher level following the club’s promotion, he’s hit 11 goals in 31 matches.
With the Imps reliant on a forward line comprised largely of loan players adding depth with another promising talent seems a sensible move and with Appleton’s eye for talent, this could be another shrewd bit of business.
Bonis has reportedly been on trial with Burnley but the Premier League club are unlikely to offer many first-team opportunities to the youngster making Lincoln the more attractive proposal.
Lincoln end their excellent campaign at Wembley next Sunday against Neil Critchley’s Blackpool after finish the season on 77 points, good enough for a fifth-place finish.
