Lincoln City are set to sign Charlton Athletic midfielder Alex Gilbey on loan, D3D4 Football understands.
The player has rejected an offer from League Two side Leyton Orient to sign for Mark Kennedy’s side.
The former MK Dons midfielder is set to be the latest addition to join the Imps with a permanent moe earmarked for the future should things go well for the player.
Gilbey has made 60 league appearances during his time in South London, scoring five times, and is likely to add competition to a solid Lincoln City midfield.
Leyton Orient held talks with the player but, D3D4 Football understands the 27-year-old has chosen to join the Imps instead. Shrewsbury Town were also linked with the player, as per London News Online, but sources at the League One club have refuted this claim.
Gilbey started his career at Colchester before moves to both Wigan Athletic and MK Dons. He was a success with the Buckinghamshire side, netting 11 goals in 92 league games.
He’s set to join an Imps side who are currently unbeaten in League One having drawn their first three games before beating Oxford with an impressive first-half display on Tuesday night.
Lincoln face trips to Peterborough and Cambridge next with a home game against Fleetwood sandwiched between the two.
