Leyton Orient are eyeing up a move for former Lincoln and Peterborough midfielder Alex Woodyard.

The midfielder was released by the Posh at the end of the current campaign and he is already on the radar of both the O’s and Colchester United, according to former football agent James Goodwin.

Woodyard was a superb player during his time with Lincoln City, having been brought to the club by former Imps manager Danny Cowley. The 27-year-old had followed the Cowley brothers on their extraordinary journey up the football pyramid having been with them at both Concord Rangers and Braintree, before signing with them at Lincoln City in the summer of 2016.

He moved to Peterborough in 2018 after they offered an undisclosed fee that matched the player’s release clause, but his time at London Road has now come to an end.

His release has sparked the attention of Leyton Orient who are looking to strengthen after a difficult campaign in League Two, but they will face competition from the likes of Colchester and probably other League One clubs this summer.

During his time with Peterborough, Woodyard failed to find the net despite playing well over 50 matches in blue and white. He spent the end of this season on loan at Tranmere Rovers where he made 11 appearances, scoring once.

Woodyard is a classy midfielder with good vision and a decent range of passing. He will not be short of suitors this summer and Orient will be advised to move quickly if they are to secure his services.
