Northampton have sold wantaway striker Junior Morias to Scottish Premiership club St Mirren for an undisclosed fee.

Morias, 24, is the fifteenth player to leave the Cobblers this summer as part of a radical squad shake-up by manager Keith Curle. He made a total of 25 appearances for the club in all competitions, of which just 10 were starts, and scored six goals.

The Jamacian was signed by Northampton from arch-rivals Peterborough United in June 2018.

He was plagued by injury problems during his short time at Sixfields, including a hamstring tear and an appendix operation, which kept him on the sidelines for over four months of the 2018-19 campaign.

Morias was transfer-listed by Curle in May 2019- but still made two substitute appearances for Northampton in the new season prior to his departure.

The striker’s most memorable moment in Cobblers colours was his acrobatically-chipped stoppage-time equaliser in a feisty local derby against MK Dons last December.

He becomes the second player from Northampton to join St Mirren this summer, after midfielder Sam Foley also transferred to the Buddies. Both have signed two-year deals.

When commenting on the transfer, Cobblers boss Curle was keen to praise Morias, but insisted that the move was in the best interests of all involved.

“Junior is a player and a personality that I have enjoyed working with but… he wasn’t getting the game time he wanted”, Curle said.

“We said to him that if an opportunity comes where you are going to get more game time elsewhere, and it suits you and it suits the football club financially, then it can proceed.

“We informed Junior of the interest from St Mirren and he wanted to progress things.

“He wants to play on a regular basis at this stage of his career, so it is a good move for Junior. He moves with our best wishes and we hope he does well.”

Morias, who could make his St Mirren debut against Rangers on Saturday, said: “It is all positive and I am really excited to get started. It is good to feel wanted by a manager and a club. I am grateful and thankful that this got sorted.”
