Morecambe manager Stephen Robinson has reacted after being told by a fan that he is ‘ruining this club’ during the Shrimps 4-3 win against Doncaster.
The home side trailed 3-0 to Donny at half-time during the League One encounter on Sunday, but a storming second-half comeback saw Robinson’s men turn it around to bag a dramatic 4-3 win.
Given the context of the match, this could be a huge three points for the Shrimps who had been on a tricky run of form coming into the relegation six-pointer.
Morecambe had not won in their previous six games before completing a heroic comeback at the Mazuma and it was during the half-time interval, with the home side down 3-0, that a fan directed the harsh comment towards Robinson.
“We are a good football side but we can’t defend,” the Morecambe boss said post-match.
“That’s the reality at the minute and we have to try and change that if we are to stay in this division but somebody shouted me at half-time ‘you’re ruining this football club.’
“I’m not sure too many times Morecambe have seen a football match like that at this level, League One, where there’s 4-3 and a team that’s passed the ball as well and created as many chances so it’s nice to prove people wrong.”
The result leaves Morecambe a point above the relegation zone having played one game more than Fleetwood who currently occupy 21st position.
The Shrimps are expected to add some new players over the coming week having struggled with injuries, especially in defensive positions, in recent times.
They have a difficult run of matches ahead, firstly travelling down to London to take on Wimbledon before a double-header at home against high-flying Wigan and Wycombe.
