Paul Cook is looking to strengthen his Ipswich Town side this summer by targeting three players from Sunderland, according to reports.
The Suffolk outfit are hoping to hit the ground running as Paul Cook gets to grip with his first transfer window since taking charge in March.
Chief executive Mark Ashton is working with Cook to bring in players they hope will help boost the club’s chances of promotion after missing out on the play-offs in back-to-back campaigns.
Three of the names mentioned by the EADT are Charlie Wyke, Max Power and young forward Josh Hawkes. Sunderland are still hoping to keep last season’s top scorer, Wyke, who netted 31 times in 54 appearances in all competitions for the Black Cats, but Ipswich will be an attractive prospect.
Max Power was released by Lee Johnson and has a number of clubs interested but Paul Cook should be able to persuade the midfielder to head to Portman Road after the pair enjoyed a successful time at Wigan together, winning promotion from League One in 2017/18.
Josh Hawkes is a player with plenty of potential having impressed as a teenager at Hartlepool United but he has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Stadium of Light, with his only appearances coming in the EFL Trophy.
He has a year remaining on his current deal but Ipswich might be able to reach an agreement to bring the 22-year-old south. Hawkes did well for the Sunderland U23 side this season leading the Premier League 2 Division 2 scoring charts with 13 goals in 19 starts.
The Tractor Boys will be hoping to get some business done early with the transfer window officially opening on June 09.
