Ipswich Town and Sunderland are both targetting the loan signing of Manchester City youngster Matt Smith.
The 20-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Championship side QPR but is likely to be recalled by the Premier League club after finding game time hard to come by in West London.
City regard Smith very highly and are keen to get him back out on loan to a club where he will be able to feature in more matches. This season he has only played eight times for the Super Hoops with just two of those being starts.
Man City penned him to a new long-term deal prior to loaning him to QPR and want him to develop his game in the EFL. Both Sunderland and Ipswich are interested in making a move for the player, according to London Football News.
Smith made a big impression when on loan at Dutch side FC Twente last year and Ipswich will be hoping they can tempt the player to Portman Road where he is likely to make an impact in League One.
They will have to fend off the interests of Sunderland with Phil Parkinson’s side on the lookout for new blood having already bagged Kyle Laffert on a deal until the end of the season and Bailey Wright on loan from Bristol City.
