Walsall’s defeat at home to Mansfield this weekend was their fifth straight loss in League Two and they picked up yet another injury to add to the growing list.

Before kick-off, the Saddlers were missing both James Clarke and Zak Jules to injury while Matt Sadler was suspended having been sent off for deliberate handball against Oldham in mid-week.

They were forced to make an early change again on Saturday after striker Josh Gordon pulled up with what looked like a calf injury. The 25-year-old was substituted in the 29th minute against Mansfield and could now miss several games.

The latest set back left manager Darrell Clarke a frustrated figure and he felt the injury to Gordan sums up the team’s luck at the moment.

“Some players need a bit of a break but it’s very difficult when you’ve got the injury list that we’ve got,” the former Bristol Rovers boss said.

“We had three centre-halves missing, two from injury, one from suspension and we’ve picked up another one today (Gordon).

“It’s early days to assess but I think it’s his calf. It sums us up a little bit at the minute, picking up injuries.”

Walsall face Swindon next with the Robins fresh off an emphatic 4-0 win at Crawley with Eoin Doyle netting a hat-trick moving him onto 13 for the season.
