Forest Green Rovers owner Dale Vince has poured scorn on the alternative proposal to end the season put forward by Mark Palios.

Tranmere Rovers chairman Mark Palios released a statement that offered a different way to end the League One season based not only on points per game but also on a margin for error averaged over the last three years.

Palios told the Press Association news agency on Monday that his club’s plan “reflects the wishes of the majority of clubs” however this is not something recognised by Dale Vince.

“Surprised to read this. Tranmere’s proposal is complex and looks designed specifically for their circumstances – to avoid relegation. I see no equity or logic in it,” he wrote on Twitter.

The two options offered in the model put forward by Tranmere are firstly, no relegation or, secondly, no club only in the relegation zone within the margin for error, would be relegated. This would see the Super White Army avoid the drop in both cases.

Vince has suggested that the proposal is heavily weighted to serve the interests of Tranmere and is not something he sees gaining much support from other clubs, mainly due to its complicated nature.

“I don’t see how past form is relevant, by definition most teams that get relegated have a bad year, that’s how it happens,” he added on social media.

“What is this ‘margin for error’ – did you create it, how is it relevant? And why go to the press before you published it, claiming a majority supported?”

League Two has already been concluded with clubs voting to end the season on an unweighted PPG system. If this proposal is ratified then Swindon, Crewe and Plymouth would go up automatically and Stevenage would be relegated with Cheltenham, Exeter, Colchester and Northampton contesting the play-offs.

It is widely expected that Barrow will be promoted to take Bury’s place with a potential play-off system in the National League to finalise the final promotion spot.

Nothing in League One has been decided yet with an announcement expected sometime early next week.
