Joey Barton has taken to twitter to “emphatically” deny allegations that he was involved in an incident at Barnsley on Saturday.
With regards to the alleged incident on Saturday following our game against Barnsley, I emphatically deny all the allegations made. Given this matter has not been formally closed, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment.

The Fleetwood manager has been accused of punching Tyke’s boss Daniel Stendel following the Trawlermen’s 4-2 defeat at Oakwell. South Yorkshire Police are currently investigating a “tunnel altercation”, according to BBC Sport and Sky Sports cameras captured footage of Barton being stopped by officers when leaving the stadium on Saturday.
Accusations against the former England international grew following a tweet from Barnsley forward Cauley Woodrow, who said Barton had “physically assaulted” Stendel, leaving the Head Coach with “blood pouring from his face”. The tweet has since been deleted. The Blackpool Gazette report that Stendel required emergency dental treatment following an incident in the tunnel.
South Yorkshire Police have asked any witnesses, especially those with video footage, to come forward. With the investigation ongoing, Barton stated it would be “inappropriate” to discuss the matter in too much detail.
In addition to aiding the criminal investigation, Barnsley have complained to the EFL and FA.
