Hull City centre back Jacob Greaves is being targetted by a number of Premier League clubs including Newcastle United, according to reports.

The 20-year-old defender, son of former Tiger’s man Mark Greaves, has really impressed at the heart of the League One side’s backline this season and has been attracting interest from the top flight.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are keeping an eye on the player and with good reason. The 6ft 1″ centre back has helped Grant McCann’s men into second spot in League One this season after they beat Charlton at the weekend. They could close the gap on table-toppers Lincoln City to just a single point if they win their game in hand.

Greaves has been an important part of their success this season making 14 appearances in all competitions so far. It will come as no surprise to those who watched him at Cheltenham during the 2019/20 campaign.

Greaves was an integral part of the Robins back three that, under the guidance of Michael Duff, reached the play-off semi-finals in League Two with the best defensive record in the division.

So good were Greaves and co. that they only allowed 30 goals in 38 matches and the youngster would often keep the talented Will Boyle out of the line-up.

He is thought to be valued anywhere between £500,000 and £1 million which, for a side like Newcastle, would be a snip.

McCann is unlikely to want the youngster to leave but, as we saw last season, he may not have any say in the matter. Hull face Blackpool and Accrington next in back-to-back home games before a trip south to face promotion rivals Portsmouth on 23 January at Fratton Park.
