Northampton Town manager Keith Curle believes it is a real shame that midfielder Ryan Watson will miss considerable time after breaking his collar bone.

The 26-year-old suffered the injury in Northampton’s defeat in the EFL Trophy defeat to Peterborough United last night. The Cobblers were also dealt a further blow as Matty Warburton was also injured in the game.

The former-Carlisle boss was disappointed for his midfielder who, he believed, was starting to enjoy his football.

“Ryan has broken his collarbone and Matt Warburton has a nasty gash on his ankle,” he said.

“Ryan is going to need surgery and we will find out more on Matty on Wednesday. Charlie Goode and Jordan Turnbull also both missed the game tonight through injury and they will be assessed as the week goes on.

“It’s a real shame for Ryan because I felt he was just starting to find his feet and he was really enjoying his football. He’s going to be out for a period of time now and it’s going to be a lot of hard work for him to get back fit but he needs to treat it as a challenge.”

Northampton will be hoping to secure back-to-back league victories for the first time this season when they face Bradford at Valley Parade following last weekend’s 3-1 win at home to Plymouth.
