Gillingham have signed former Tranmere midfielder Danny Lloyd on a one-year deal.

The dynamic 29-year-old is coming off an impressive spell at Prenton Park after directly contributing to 12 goals (seven goals and five assists) in just 22 starts.

Lloyd, who came to prominence at Stockport County, impressed in League One after joining Peterborough United in 2017.

The versatile midfielder, who can play on either flank or as a number 10, hit 13 goals and five assists in only 25 starts for the Posh before signing for Salford City.

He’ll get another chance to show what he can do in the third tier after agreeing to a one-year deal at the Preistfield Stadium.

During the 2020/21 campaign, he made a big impression on the Wirral after signing for Tranmere on an initial short-term deal. As well as his impressive goal contribution, he also made 66 interceptions and won 115 second balls during the season, leading the press with energy.

Known for his hard work and tenacity, Lloyd should be an instant hit with Gills supporters. The player has worked his way up from the non-league game and became a hero at Stockport County where he scored 29 goals in 49 appearances.

His displays at Edgely Park earned him a move to League One Peterborough before spells at Salford City and Tranmere, helping the latter to the League Two play-offs and EFL Trophy final last season.

Lloyd becomes Gillingham’s fifth signing of the season following the arrivals of Olly Lee, Ben Reeves, David Tutonda and the returning Max Ehmer earlier this summer.

The club have also agreed a deal with a goalkeeper which is set to be announced through official channels at 6pm.
