Gillingham are looking to upgrade their attack ahead of the new season as they target the signing of free agent Mikael Mandron.
The former Colchester player was released earlier this summer having played for the Essex side for the last two campaigns.
The Frenchman struggled to start regularly last season, often being used as a substitute while even making appearances in central midfield during the club’s injury crisis near the end of the campaign.
Steve Evans has been busy already during this window, signing five players already including highly-rated ‘keeper Jack Bonham.
The Gills are, according to HITC, looking to make Mandron their sixth summer signing but they face competition from League One rivals, Bristol Rovers as well as Scottish Premier outfit Hearts.
Mandron was surprisingly effective off the bench last season for Colchester, creating almost 0.9 chances per 90 minutes, second on the team behind only star man Sammie Szmodics.
This shows chances created (total for the season) against chances created per 90.

The former Sunderland forward bagged 12 goals in 95 appearances while with the U’s but faced some stiff competition with Luke Norris and Frank Nouble often being preferred ahead of the Frenchman.
Mandron works extremely hard off the ball, often sacrificing personal glory for the benefit of the team. He would be an ideal signing for both Gillingham and Bristol Rovers tough might be tempted north of the border should Hearts make an attractive offer.
