D3D4 Oldham Athletic correspondent Chris Stringer reports on the campaign that is sweeping twitter:

Free Jack Byrne: Oldham fans want their midfielder maestro back

A Twitter campaign has begun to restore Jack Byrne’s first team status at Boundary Park. The Oldham midfielder has been under a club suspension since the end of July and remains an outlier at the club.

It is understood that Byrne is currently training with the youth team following an incident with Ousmane Fane, whose leg was broken in training during pre-season. It also follows a series of online comments by the player, who has been critical of the way the club is run. The club has been overshadowed by financial instability for many years, which has been particularly highlighted since ex-agent Abdallah Lemsagam took over the club last year. The Moroccan also appears to have tightened club policy on misbehaviour. Just last week, defender Anthony Gerrard was sacked by the club following a series of unprofessional tweets

The lack of information from the club has proved frustrating to the fans, who have now taken to twitter with the campaign ‘#freejackbyrne’:

With Oldham plagued with injuries it feels now is the time to either bring the Irishman back into first team training or clarify his status at the club – one thing is for certain, the fans aren’t going to let this one drop any time soon.
