Peterborough United midfielder George Boyd is set to miss an emotional return to his old club Stevenage in the FA Cup First Round proper.

The 34-year-old has been troubled by a persistent knee injury and will be rested for the game against the club he left in 2007 when initially arriving at Posh.

With Boyd missing out, it could open the door for others with Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson including academy graduate Harrison Burrows in the squad for the trip to the Lamex.

“There won’t be many changes to the team, but George is a major doubt,” Posh manager Darren Ferguson stated. “He’s had a knee issue for a while now.

“We have plenty of cover in midfield positions including Alex Woodyard and Serhat Tasdemir as well as Harrison Burrows. Harrison will be in the squad. He would give us natural left-footed balance.”

Peterborough have been going strong this season in League One and currently sit third in the table despite a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury in mid-week.

Stevenage have lost only once in the last five games in the league but only remain off the bottom of the division on goal difference.
