Former Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley is being linked with a move to League Two Salford City after they surprisingly sacked Graham Alexander this morning.

The fourth tier outfit are fifth in the league and unbeaten yet decided to dispense with the service of the man who helped them win promotion to the EFL for the first time in 2019.

It is thought that the current owners, who include former Manchester United stars Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and David Beckham, are looking for a manager who can implement a structure through the entire club.

According to football insider James Goodwin, the man they are looking to do this is former Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley.

Cowley was sacked by Huddersfield Town at the end of last season after helping the West Yorkshir club avoid relegation from the Championship despite them being well adrift when he and his brother Nicky took over.

The Cowley brothers have an exceptional record having taken Lincoln City from the National League all the way to League Two in just three seasons while also reaching the FA Cup quarter-final and winning the EFL Trophy during that time.

They are known for their hands on approach which appears to be an attractive prospect for the Salford ownership.

There is no doubt that the Cowley’s are good enough to manage at a much higher level than League Two, but if Salford City can tempt them it would certainly be a huge coup for the Ammies.
