Barton’s men stun a sorry Posh side.
Posh lose their first game of the season after two defensive mistakes cost them a valuable three points.
With so much pressure on Darren Ferguson and his side to impress this season, it was a disappointing start for the Posh after they lost 3-1 to Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town.
Barton’s side gained the lead in the 3rd minute after a superb cross from a corner found the head of Stoke City loanee Harry Souttar.
Fleetwood then found the net again just nine minutes later after a defensive mistake from Mark Beevers gave Josh Morris an opportunity to chip goalkeeper Christy Pym, which he did so brilliantly.
After 59 minutes, Joe Ward was substituted off for the Posh and was replaced by Marcus Maddison. Almost instantly, the star midfielder made an impact in the game, providing strikers Ivan Toney and new record signing Mo Eisa with exquisite curling crosses from the wing.
Just seven minutes after coming on to the pitch, Maddison provided a stunning ball into the box from a free-kick which was easily turned home by striker Ivan Toney, making it 2-1.
The final nail in the coffin for Peterborough though came in the 81st minute when defender Frankie Kent’s mistake allowed former Posh player Danny Andrew to cooly slot the ball into the back of the net from a free kick.
Posh will now be looking to get their campaign running away at Oxford next Saturday, while Fleetwood will be hoping to collect another three points at home to AFC Wimbledon.
