Fleetwood Town are keen on adding Callum Connolly to their ranks, following an impressive loan with the Lincoln City.

The 22-year-old Everton midfielder is currently on-loan with The Imps but Fleetwood are keen on snatching him up, as they seek to strengthen their promotion credentials.

According to Football Insider, Everton have a mid-season recall clause they may use in order to get Connolly playing higher up the league.

Connolly has made 15 appearances for City in all competitions and has mostly played in an anchorman role in midfield.

In his short career, he has also spent time on loan at Bolton, Wigan, Ipswich and Barnsley. The most extensive of these spells was with Ipswich in the 2017/18 season in which he made 35 appearances.

With the Cod Army losing two defenders in Peter Clarke and Jimmy Dunne, Joey Barton is keen to bolster the side’s defensive rigidity with a defensive-minded midfielder. A number of disciplinary issues at the club has also left the side light in terms of quality, with Barton telling Blackpool Gazette:

“[Disciplinary issues have] left us with a deficit of players. You would have to say we’re not as strong as where we started the season, we are aware of that.”

Fleetwood next play on 07 January against Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trophy, before travelling to Burton Albion in the league on 11 January.
