Colchester United are set to sign Crawley Town striker Kwesi Appiah on loan, D3D4 Football understands.
The powerful forward has only featured sparodically under Kevin Betsy this season and it now looks as though he will make the switch to the U’s before the deadline closes at 11pm.
The 32-year-old hit 11 league goals in 26 appearances last season for the Red Devils and, but for an injury, may well have increased that tally.
He will be an important signing for Colchester who have struggled to score goals consistently over the last few seasons and have only netted five times in their six matches so far.
D3D4 Football understands that a deal is close to being concluded that will see the Ghana international move to Wayne Brown’s side on loan until the end of the season.
Appiah is a vastly experienced campaigner who has made appearances in all three EFL divisions during his career. Last season saw him score 12 goals in all competitions in 29 appearances.
He has found competition stiff this year at Crawley with the addition of last season’s League Two top scorer Dom Telford while the club have also had a change of management and ownership.
Colchester will be hoping a deal will be done before the 11pm deadline as they look to improve the attacking options Brown has available to him for the season ahead.
