Glenn Middleton is set to join League One side Doncaster Rover on a season long loan from Rangers.
The 19 year old is said to be in the advanced stage of talks regarding a move for the 19-year-old. The former Norwich winger signed for Gers in January 2018 and made 28 appearances in the first team, scoring 5 goals, before he returned to the development squad.
The exciting youngster even has experience in the Europa League, where he scored in a 4-3 defeat to Spartak Moskow.
Middleton is now keen on securing regular football and sees a move to the Keepmoat Stadium as his ideal opportunity. Indeed, Middleton left Norwich in search of football; in an interview to the Daily Record in January 2018, Norwich academy director Steve Weaver said:
“Glenn expressed a desire to play first-team football.
“This hasn’t been easy for us to sort as there is strong competition in his position within the first team. Now, this opportunity has come up for him to go to Rangers.
“He’s a Scottish lad and it’s a great chance for him to go home and play some first team football. It’s in his best interests to go and play up there.”
Grant McCann has revealed that he met with the winger describing him as “very direct” and “very aggressive”. Middleton is capable on either side, but is at his strongest on the left-wing, in a more attacking role. He has also been capped for Scotland at youth level.
Doncaster finished 6th in League One last season and missed out on promotion at the hands of Charlton Athletic, who went on to win the playoffs. McCann’s side are now keen to build on last season’s successful campaign by pushing for promotion once more and the bookies currently have them down as eight favourites for promotion; this signing could be just what the South-Yorkshire side need.
