Doncaster Rovers are one of a number of clubs chasing the signing of Portsmouth defender Kieron Freeman, according to reports.
The 30-year-old looks set to leave the South Coast club before the end of the transfer window and Donny are facing competition from Mansfield, Swindon and Leyton Orient.
The former Sheffield United and Derby man has not featured much this season and has been behind new signing Joe Rafferty in the pecking order so far.
According to the News, Freeman is looking to move back North and Gary McSheffrey is still keen to bring the right-back to the Keepmoat as he attempts to build a side capable of pushing the club back into League One.
McSheffrey already has Kyle Knoyle at right-back but adding competition will give the Donny boss more options as he hopes to continue the impressive start his side have made to the 2022/23 campaign.
Doncaster beat Salford last time out to register their third win of the season and remain unbeaten in their opening five matches.
Unlike last season, Donny have got their recruitment spot on this summer with players like Birmingham loanee Kyle Hurst and left-back James Maxwell already looking like great additions.
Freeman would add another option and a bit of experience to help an already decent squad get that little bit better ahead of matches against Northampton and Mansfield, who are also expected to be in the promotion mix.
