Doncaster Rovers face a fight to keep hold of midfielder Ben Whiteman in January with Huddersfield Town keen to land the player.

Whiteman is one of the stars in Donny’s current line-up and plays a pivotal role at the heart of the midfield. His talents have not gone unnoticed and Championship outfit Huddersfield Town are keen to land the 23-year-old, according to Football Insider.

Whiteman can play the role of a deep-lying playmaker or anchorman in front of the defence and this versatility is an attractive prospect for Danny Cowley.

Doncaster will fight hard to keep hold of their star man, who only signed a new deal with the club in November. That contract does not expire until 2023 which means a significant bid would be required to prize him away from the Keepmoat.

Cowley is keen to reshape the squad he inherited which lacks the balance needed to compete at the top end of the Championship table. With the Terriers still in receipt of parachute payments, money is not thought to be a blocker.

Whiteman has made a big impression since joining Doncaster from Sheffield United on loan in 2017, a move that was made permanent in January 2018.

This season he has created five chances, scored three goals and won 57 defensive challenges in League One making him one of Donny’s top performers.
