Doncaster Rovers crept back into the League One play-off places with a 4-1 thrashing of Bristol Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium. James Coppinger hit home twice in the first 12 minutes, Mallik Wilks sealed it 3-0 by half time.

Kieran Sadlier struck the fourth just after the second half whistle, before Jonson Clarke-Harris pulled back a 66th-minute consolation penalty.

The Rovers sneak back in sixth place, having dropped to 7th due to a loss to Luton on Saturday.

Coppinger gave the boys the lead after just three minutes when his shot crept past Bristol keeper Jack Bonham. The club legend, just 12 goals short of 100 career goals, fired home his second with a driven shot from 20 yards.

After Leeds-loanee, Wilks scored from 12 yards after 31 minutes, promising prospect Sadlier’s 30-yard screamer widened the Rover’s lead.
Clarke-Harris clinched one back from the penalty spot at 66 minutes after being shoved to the ground inside the home penalty area, but it was too little, too late.

This win comes as a boost to the Rover’s whose post-FA cup exhaustion has resulted in a poor string of results. Hopefully this marks a return to winning ways for the Rovers.

The League One play-off race is hotting up

That win has put Doncaster in the driving seat but there are still five teams within seven points of sixth with Fleetwood only one point further back.

Whoever can go on the most consistent run of form will be the side that sneaks in, tough Donny’s win against the Gas has put them in a very good position boosted by the fact that their destiny is in their own hands.

With only one game remaining against a team in the top six (Sunderland) and two against sides in the top half (Sunderland & Coventry), Doncaster have a run-in which should make the play-off attainable but this is League One so you just never know.
