League One side Doncaster Rovers are interested in signing Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy.

The 36-year-old has found himself out of favour at the City Ground and although Murphy would rather stay in the Championship, the deadline day for the second tier is tomorrow; making a move to League One more likely.

It is thought a move to his former club Ipswich, where he scored 67 times in 225 appearances, is unlikely but he is still attracting interest from Burton, Doncaster and Bolton. It is understood that Rovers are leading the race for the striker, according to East Anglia Daily Times.

Doncaster Rovers have a spot to fill in the attacking position, with John Marquis having recently secured his move to Portsmouth.

There are questions, though, over Murphy’s wage demands and age. In an interview Ipwich boss, Paul Lambert said:

“The lad was a good player but I don’t know because he’s older now.

“Money-wise you never know until wages get put on the table, but people need to get their heads round that we won’t be getting masses.”

Murphy started his career at Waterford in 2004 before moving to Sunderland, where he spent five years. He has since had spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Celtic, Ipsiwch and Newcastle.

The striker has notched 100 league goals in his 15-year career, with an average of one goal ever four games.
