Derby County are closing in on another signing as their rebuild continues, this time targetting striker David McGoldrick, according to reports.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving the Blades at the end of last season and is one player the Rams are lining up to sign as they rebuild following David Clowes’s takeover.
According to Alan Nixon, the player is in contract talks with Derby after hitting 27 league goals across four seasons with Sheffield United. He netted 10 times for the Blades during their two years in the Premier League and his experience would be a good asset for Derby.
Liam Rosenior is the interim manager at Pride Park and was busy yesterday adding Tom Barkhuizen, Joe Wildsmith and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.
County are ramping up their recruitment now the takeover has been completed in order to be ready to take on Oxford at home on 30 July.
McGoldrick has enjoyed a strong career playing for Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich amongst others. He spent five and a half years at Portman Road netting 40 league goals in 146 games for the Tractor Boys.
As well as playing most of his career in the top two divisions, McGoldrick also has 14 caps for the Republic of Ireland National team.
