Darrell Clarke is set to leave his job at Walsall to take over at another EFL club, according to reports.
The 43-year-old has quit as manager of the Saddlers and was not at the training ground this morning as he prepares to take a job elsewhere, with both his old club Bristol Rovers and Northampton Town currently without a man in the dugout.
Walsall have only won one of their last seven matches in League Two and had a difficult transfer window that saw two key players sold to sides further up the EFL pyramid.
With the club currently in 11th in the table, it appears they will need to find a new man to carry on their play-off hopes, according to Football Insider, with chairman Leigh Pomlett expected to inform the players after training today.
Clarke took charge of the club in the summer of 2019 and has enjoyed mixed results during his spell at the Bescott.
The loss of both Zak Jules and Elijah Adebayo will have been frustrating, with the latter especially important to the club’s attacking hopes.
With the COVID crisis continuing to deny club’s their most important source of income, the sale of key players was necessary to but it appears Darrell Clarke has decided to take on another challenge elsewhere.
It is still unknown where that might be but the Saddlers will need to act quickly to replace him as they head into an important part of the season.
