Both Crewe Alexandra and Bradford City are chasing Peterborough midfielder Callum Cooke but have been told a fee is needed before he can leave.
Crewe want the midfielder back at the club after he was there on loan during the 2016-17 season and have made enquiries about a possible loan move as have Bradford City, according to reports.
The League Two Railwaymen are looking to bring the skilful midfielder to Gresty Road after a fine finish to 2018-19 saw them briefly flirt with the idea of the play-offs.
This season, if they keep their key players, they could challenge for a top seven berth but will be unlikely to persuade Peterborough to contribute to Cooke’s wages in the form of a loan agreement.
The Cambridgeshire club are only interested in selling the midfielder despite the offers.
Bradford City are the other side to attempted to strike a loan move for the 22-year-old but were, again, rebuffed.
The Bantams have been busy this summer signing no fewer than nine players already but they are keen to continue the rebuild under new manager Gary Bowyer.
Bradford kick-off the new season at Valley Parade on 03 August as they host Cambridge United while Crewe face Plymouth Argyle at Gresty Road.
