Crewe’s French striker Mikael Mandron has rejected a new two-year deal at Gresty Road with clubs in the Championship reportedly showing an interest.

The 27-year-old is in a rich vein of form for the Railwaymen, netting four goals in his last six appearances in all competitions.

This has alerted teams in the Championship to his availability given his contract is set to expire this summer. If no new deal is reached between the player and Crewe then he could leave for nothing in July.

Wigan Athletic are known to be interested in taking the player to Lancashire as they fight for promotion but they now appear to have some serious competition for the former Sunderland man.

Mandron has netted nine goals for Crewe this season despite the club struggling for the first half of the campaign prompting the club to offer the player a new two-year deal but, according to Football Insider, he has turned down the new terms.

The Frenchmen scored 14 goals in 45 appearances during the 2021/21 season for Alex but it appears he will leave before the end of January unless he does a U-turn on the new deal.

Crewe currently sit 22nd in League One, four points behind AFC Wimbledon in 20th. They have only managed to win five of their 26 matches this season but have won two of their last four games.

This has put them in a decent position to attack the second half of the campaign as they look to force their way up the table and towards a place of safety.
