Colchester United are amongst a host of clubs keen on signing non-league striker Reggie Young.
According to Football Insider, Young has been on trial at United since the start of pre-season and has impressed in friendlies for the under 23 side. However, Colchester may be set to be blown out of the water by Championship club Barnsley, who are willing to offer the winger a two-year deal. He fits the bill as the Yorkshire club have a philosophy of developing young players.
Young impressed for Farnborough last season where he found the net 10 times, as well as contributing seven assists. The 20-year-old rejected a new deal at his parent club, Woking, and is now a free agent, though Woking would be due a small compensation fee.
Colchester have a history of developing young players, as shown with the likes of Sammy Szmodics who recently joined Bristol City and Young would fit in well at the Colchester Community Stadium.
Barnsley would likely be more attractive to the youngster in terms of finances, but a move to Colchester could see him receive more first-team opportunities. Barnsley have, though, suggested they would loan out the winger should they manage to secure his signature. Colchester could, therefore, get their man either way.
