Colchester United are interested in signing former Plymouth winger Joel Grant.

Grant finds himself out of contract at Home Park and Colchester see him as a potential replacement for Brennan Dickinson, according to Essex County Standard. The 31-year-old joined Argyle in June 2017, from Exeter City, and went on to make over 50 appearances for the Green Army; scoring ten goals.

The Jamaican has been offered a new deal with Argyle but he may be reluctant to extend his stay due to the club presently being without a manager, following the sacking of Derek Adams in April. Brennan Dickinson, United’s former left-winger, left to join MK Dons last month.

Speaking on the loss of Brennan, Colchester’s Director of Football said:

““Brennan will be a loss because of the positions he played but it’s something we’re aiming to address with a replacement.

“We’ve got recruitment targets and will see how they develop in the coming weeks.”

Colchester narrowly missed out on the playoffs last season, when they finished 8th, and are keen to mount a promotion push in the coming season.

Grant would certainly provide Colchester with an exciting prospect, though signing him may prove a gamble as he spent the second half of last season on the side lines after picking up a thigh injury.
