Cheltenham Town are leading the race to sign free-agent midfielder Liam Sercombe, according to reports.
The former Bristol Rovers man was released by the Gas this summer and is already attracting a lot of interest from clubs in D3D4. League One Gillingham are hoping to bring the 30-year-old to Priestfield but they look set to miss out with Cheltenham leading the race for his signature.
The Robins missed out on promotion this season after being defeated in the League Two play-off semi-final to Northampton and are already looking to rebuild.
According to Bristol Live, they are currently the side most likely to sign Liam Sercombe despite the Gills also being interested.
Sercombe is an attacking midfielder and during his three years at the Memorial Stadium, he played 103 league games scoring 13 goals.
The last time Sercombe played in the fourth tier, he won promotion with Oxford United. During the U’s 2015-16 campaign, the former Exeter man netted an impressive 14 goals in 45 as Michael Appleton’s side finished runner-up to Chris Wilder’s Northampton.
Micheal Duff’s side will be hoping to keep the bulk of their squad together but are likely to see Ryan Broom getting interest from clubs higher up the pyramid. Sercombe would be an experienced addition and could offer a goal threat from midfield.
