Charlton Athletic have announced the singing of Macauley Bonne on a three year deal.
This marks the first signing for the Addicks this summer. Bonne helped fire Leyton Orient into League Two last season, and moves to the Valley for a relative steal; as his £200,000 release clause was met according to Talk Sport.
The 23-year-old scored 23 times for Orient last season averaging one goal every two games during his time at the club. This proves a real coup for Charlton, as they beat the likes of Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United to his signature.
Upon signing, the Zimbawe international told the club’s official website:
“I’m delighted to be here now, it’s been something that’s been on the cards for a while now and so I’m delighted that it’s over the line.”
He went on to explain why he chose Charlton: “Seeing how they’ve had a young team for the past two seasons and they’ve managed to get where they have with the youth in there. I thought it was the best move for me to progress and become a better player.”
Boone has had stints at Colchester, Lincoln and Woking as well as Orient. Colchester are set to receive 30% of the £200,000 fee.
