Fleetwood Town are close to getting Harry Souttar back on loan from Stoke City, according to reports.

The defender had a spell at Highbury last season and was hoping to be given some Championship minutes by parent club Stoke City this season but it now appears he is heading back to Fleetwood on loan according to the Football Insider.

The 6ft 7” centre-back has been chased by nearly a dozen clubs this summer with Portsmouth attempting to get the 20-year-old to join on a permanent deal as a replacement for Matt Clarke.

Stoke manager, Nathan Jones, does not want the club to sell Souttar as he rates him highly but is happy to see him re-join the Trawlermen on loan to help continue his development.

The Australian U-23 started his career in Scotland with Dundee United before moving to Stoke in 2016. He is expected to play a big part in Nathan Jones’ long-term plans but will relish the chance for regular first team football.

Last season he played 11 League One games with Joey Barton’s side and made a big impression on the Fleetwood fans.

Fleetwood kick-off their 2019-20 campaign with a trip to Cambridgeshire to take on Peterborough United.
