Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper believes that Championship sides will definitely be interested in signing the club’s star midfielder this summer.
Reece Brown has had a wonderful season for the Green Devils and was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year. This came as no surprise to his manager who was quick to praise his player’s attitude this campaign.
Despite the positives Brown is out of contract in the summer and there is bound to be interest. Forest Green would be due compensation for the midfielder because he is under the age of 24 but Cooper made it clear the club would like him to stay.
“We’ve made our intentions clear. We want him to stay, we’d love him to stay,” said Cooper speaking ahead of the trip to Crewe this weekend.
“I’m sure he’s got ambitions and his agent has got ambitions but it will be what it will be. We will get our compensation if he chooses to leave and we’ll move on.”
There will be no shortage of suitors for the 23-year-old and Mark Cooper did admit Championship clubs would ‘be crzy’ not to be interested in a player that has been one of the most consistently creative this season in League Two.
“I think Championship clubs would be crazy not to be interested in him but I think Reece will need assurances in terms of what role he will play, how the manager or coach sees him playing in their team and whether he’s going to be at the forefront of their thinking.”
“If not, he’s better off being somewhere where he knows he will play and knows he is highly thought of.”
After their trip to Crewe, Forest Green face Exeter City on the final day of the campaign with an outside chance of making it into the automatic promotion places.
