Gillingham are hoping they can hang on to star midfielder Kyle Dempsey amid links to Championship club Nottingham Forest.
Chris Houghton’s side are reportedly eyeing up a move for the Cumbrian who has one year left on his current deal at Priestfield.
Dempsey had an excellent campaign that has not gone unnoticed and, as reported by the Nottingham Post, Forest are one side taking an interest.
The 25-year-old had eight goals and five assists in 44 matches this season and was a lynchpin in the centre of the park for Steve Evans’ side.
The Gills have already seen Connor Ogilvie, Jordan Graham and Jack Bonham reject new deals and leave this summer while Jack Tucker has been linked with a move to newly-promoted Hull City.
Speaking to Kent Online, Gills boss Steve Evans made it clear he wants none of his remaining stars to leave.
“We need to try and keep our stronger players now and make us stronger than we were,” he said.
“The challenge in League One will be tougher with clubs like Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham and Wycombe (all relegated from the Championship), who are all very strong, plus the likes of Bolton (promoted from League 2), it is a tougher league.
“I hope we can keep all of the players.”
Gillingham finished the 2020/21 season in tenth place just seven points outside the top six. With key players leaving it will be hard for the Kent outfit to improve on a solid campaign.
