Cambridge United are interested in signing Norwich City youth prospect Diallang Jaiyesimi on loan.
The U’s aren’t alone in their interest in the winger, though, with Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers also tracking the 21-year-old according to Cambridgeshire Live.
Jaiyesimi does have League Two experience; he spent the first-half of last season on loan at Yeovil Town, where the young winger scored twice in 11 games for The Glovers. He also spent time at Grimsby Town in the 2017-18 season, where he made 29 appearances. However, there may be questions over the youngster’s fitness as he was ruled out with a serious knee injury in October last year after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Norwich are keen to see Jaiyesimi continue his development as it is believed the Canaries rate the youngster very highly but may consider Wycombe and Portsmouth to be the more favourable option with them both playing a division higher than the U’s.
Jaiyesimi is versatile and can play on either side of the pitch or in a number 10 role and would fit well into United’s squad. Cambridge disappointed last season and finished 21st in League Two.
The U’s will be keen to push on in the coming campaign and have some cash available following the sale of Jevani Brown to rivals Colchester United. This should help Colin Calderwood reshape his squad with the club aiming for a top-half finish in 2019-20.
