Bolton Wanders and Salford City are hoping to land experienced midfielder Chris McCann following his release from Oldham Athletic, according to reports.

The Irishman has played at the highest level, making seven appearances in the Premier League with Burnley in 2009-10.

Now 32, McCann started his career after coming through at Turf Moore and had eight seasons with the club making more than 260 appearances before moving to Wigan Athletic.

After three years at Wigan and a brief loan move to Coventry, he moved to Atlanta United and DC United in the MLS and then returned to England last season to rejoin his old Burnley teammate, Dino Maamria, at Oldham.

He was released by the Latics this summer and is already on the radar of both Bolton Wanderers and Salford City according to former agent and current scout James Goodwin.

Bolton are preparing for life in League Two and have just appointed Ian Evatt as their new manager after he guided Barrow to promotion into the Football League.

Salford are expected to be big hitters in League Two this season and will be looking to improve a squad already full of talent. They may see McCann as an ideal veteran to anchor their midfield in 2020/21.
