Got up nice and early on Saturday morning ready for my first live game this season. Due to my self-imposed exile from attending “home” games at St Andrews, I was really looking forward to seeing my team Coventry City in action, as I won’t go to Birmingham to see the Sky Blues play.

It does seem a little strange going this far into a season and not being at a match, but due to circumstances that are well known about now, I won’t go on going over the same old ground, pardon the pun.

Anyway, I met my son and two mates for a few beers before getting on the train to Bletchley Park, and the banter was flowing, and as all football fans know only too well, having a laugh with like-minded supporters is all part and parcel of an away day.

When we arrived in Bletchley Park it was back in the pub for a few more beers then on to the impressive MK Dons stadium. This was my 4th visit to this ground and I really do like it, and just like the Ricoh Arena it looks out of place in League One, both stadiums should be hosting at least Championship football.

Another great turn out by the Sky Blue Army as always and I bumped into a few fellow fans I haven’t seen since our exile from the Ricoh. Like me, it’s going to be just away games this campaign, unless by a miracle we get back to our real home before another season ends?

The match itself wasn’t that good to be honest although I thought we played some nice football at times, but with nothing at the end of some promising approach play.

Our strikers were short of ideas whenever they got in shooting range, whether or not it’s a lack of confidence I’m not sure?

But if the City are serious about getting promotion, they will have to find the net soon, as teams in and around us are scoring goals for fun. And a win on the road wouldn’t go amiss either, they are struggling to pick up all 3 points on their travels.

But there’s time as the season is a long one and in football, things can change quickly.

We are still in a good position in the table, and so alarm bells needn’t be rung just yet.

This week sees the Sky Blues up against 2 strong sides in Fleetwood Town on Wednesday night at St Andrews, and then away on Saturday to Peterborough who certainly know where the net is.

These two matches will be a measure of where Coventry City are as a team this season, they will be tested all over the pitch without doubt. A win and a draw would be good I feel, but two losses and while not a disaster the cynic in me and no doubt other City supporters, would be thinking that we are not a promotion looking side after all.

But that’s why we love football so much one minute you’re up, the next you’re as flat as a pancake. But like life, there’s twists and turns and your luck can change in an instant, so always keep positive.

So Play Up Sky Blues!
