D3D4 Rotherham Correspondent Ian Bradley takes heart from a good pre-season win by the Millers…

Rotherham United 4-0 Barnsley

A rampant Millers side overwhelmed & dominated Championship Barnsley in a one sided second half in front of a decent 4200 crowd at NYS on Saturday afternoon.

After an open first half where both sides could & possibly should have scored with the Reds Adam Hamill having a penalty saved by Millers keeper Richard O’Donnell early on the two sides went in at the interval level at 0-0.

The Millers made a raft of substitutions at half time & one of these subs ex Red Ryan Williams was brought down by Barnsley keeper Adam Davies on the hour mark for a penalty for the Millers. Summer signing Jamie Proctor nudged the Millers into the lead with a rebound after Davies had pushed his penalty on to the post. Barnsley should have equalised almost immediately but Reds striker Tom Bradshaw inexplicably fired over from 4 yards out after a swift break. Rotherham continued to attack their Championship opponents & on 71 minutes doubled their lead when Proctor lashed in a strike from the edge of the area after being found by a defence splitting Williams pass. O’Donnell then had to save well from Moncur & Ugbu as Barnsley tried in vain to get a foothold in the game. More Millers chances came for Sub Jerry Yates & midfielder Will Vaulks who was twice thwarted by fine Davies saves in the Barnsley goal. Rotherham finally made the game safe by scoring twice in the last five minutes, Proctor completing his hat trick with another vicious drive from outside the area then the most recent recruit Kieffer Moore (from Ipswich) netted with a tap in after another Ryan Williams cross.

I try not to read anything into pre season games but Rotherham’s performance, especially in the second half where they tore a Championship team apart fills me with encouragement as a Millers fan.
