LEAGUE ONE PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS
The fixture computer has come up with a full Tuesday night programme with all 24 League One teams in action, here’s what MIGHT happen!!!
ACCRINGTON v WYCOMBE WANDERERS
The Chairboys make the long trip to Lancashire in good form following up their fine point at Sunderland with a good win in a tight game with Shrewsbury while John Coleman’s Accy seem to have hit a sticky patch but his team are always formidable at the Wham Stadium so I’m going for a home win here.
PREDICTION HOME WIN
BRISTOL ROVERS v GILLINGHAM
Two struggling sides do battle at the Mem desperate for the points to help them move up the table. Although they lost at Charlton the Gas gave a decent account of themselves as did the Gills in defeat to Luton. Any side who boast their respective division’s top scorer as Gills do in the form of Tom Eaves has a chance & I’m tipping them to return to Kent happy.
PREDICTION AWAY WIN
BURTON ALBION v CHARLTON ATHLETIC
The Brewers return to the Pirelli Stadium keen to put their 3-0 defeat at Blackpool behind them as they chase the points for a play-off push in the new year but the in-form Addicks who currently occupy the last play-off place will be a stiff test. Burton are decent at home & are good enough to secure a draw in this one.
PREDICTION SCORE DRAW
DONCASTER ROVERS v BLACKPOOL
Rovers return to the Keepmoat in good spirits following a good 1-1 draw with neighbours Barnsley in a game that they probably should have won.
Terry McPhillips continues to do an exceptional job at Bloomfield Road & his team sit handily in 7th just outside the play offs. They have only lost once on the road so far this season & they won’t lose this game either…draw.
PREDICTION SCORE DRAW
FLEETWOOD TOWN v COVENTRY CITY
Joey Barton’s inconsistent Cod Army come into this home game on the back of a disappointing defeat to relegation haunted Plymouth last weekend so the visit of the in-form Sky Blues wouldn’t fill them with encouragement. Mark Robins team to strengthen their play-off push here.
PREDICTION AWAY WIN
LUTON TOWN v BRADFORD CITY
The Bantams gained their first three point haul for a long time in beating a very disappointing Oxford in front of over 19000 fans at the weekend but that’s where the good news ends. A Tuesday night visit to Kenilworth Road to face the free scoring Hatters wouldn’t be on any teams wish list let alone the struggling Bantams. This could be embarrassing for the Yorkshiremen.
PREDICTION HOME WIN
OXFORD UNITED v ROCHDALE
Karl Robinson’s side’s recent improved form suffered a major setback with a damaging defeat at Bradford last time out while Dale had a fine 1-0 home win over Accy thanks to the incredible Ian Henderson who has now scored over 100 goals in all competitions for the club. Keith Hill’s side will always battle & they should return to Spotland with at least a point.
PREDICTION NO SCORE DRAW
PETERBOROUGH UNITED v AFC WIMBLEDON
Fourth placed Posh have another chance to improve their inconsistent home record in this clash with the struggling Dons who despite getting a vital three points at the weekend v Southend are still in the bottom four. The fat controller to celebrate with an extra cheeseburger.
PREDICTION HOME WIN
PORTSMOUTH v WALSALL
Pompey returned to league action after a two week rest with a fine win at Glanford Park on Saturday to open up a 4 point lead at the division’s summit. The Saddlers were pegged back by 10 man Sunderland after being 2-0 up drawing 2-2 at the same time. Pompey shouldn’t underestimate the Saddlers who boast a good away record but they should take the points here.
PREDICTION HOME WIN
SHREWSBURY TOWN v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
A close game awaits at the New Meadow as these two improving sides clash. Caretaker manager Danny Coyne’s Shrews were unlucky to lose a tight game at Wycombe on Saturday while Argyle recovered from their hiding at Luton with a hard fought win against Fleetwood & they are only two points short of moving outside the bottom four. Draw!
PREDICTION SCORE DRAW
SOUTHEND UNITED v SCUNTHORPE UNITED
Two sides that have started to struggle worryingly meet at Roots Hall. The Iron gave top dogs Pompey a good game at the weekend but eventually falling to a defeat while the Shrimpers became only AFC Wimbledon’s 4th victims this season. Again I can’t separate them, draw!
PREDICTION NO SCORE DRAW
SUNDERLAND v BARNSLEY
Without a doubt the L1 game of the night & it could well be a classic. Both sides play flowing attacking football & both possess players who can & frequently do hurt the opposition. The Mackems have drawn their last two games & worryingly look likely to concede goals recently. The Tykes were rather fortunate not to concede their unbeaten home record to Donny on Saturday being second best for much of the game but I think their attacking players will relish the big crowd & atmosphere at the SOL & fire Barnsley to a massive three points.
PREDICTION AWAY WIN
