Portsmouth are interested in signing Dorking Wanderers striker Alfie Rutherford, D3D4 Football understands.
The forward was instrumental in helping the club gain promotion to the National League last season and hit 30 league goals for the side from Surrey.
Dorking have risen through the leagues thanks to sensible investment and careful planning, making them a small club thriving at the heart of their community.
They finished second in the National League South last season with an impressive 81 points and ended up beating Ebbsfleet United in the play-off final to secure promotion.
In their 40 league games they hit an incredible 101 goals with Rutherford netting 30 of them. D3D4 understands that the club put a value of £200,000 on the player when sides enquired in January and that could be enough, with add-ons, to secure the player this summer.
Pompey are one of the sides to have made contact with the player but Rutherford has attracted a lot of interest, especially from sides in the third tier, which could lead to a bidding war.
Danny Cowley’s side are in desperate need of strikers and saw Aiden O’Brien move to Shrewsbury Town leaving them with no recognised forwards at the club for the coming season.
The South Coast club are also interested in bringing Jack Payne to Fratton Park, as D3D4 revealed earlier this week as the 2022/23 season gets nearer.
